Concert with Carolyn Wonderland
from Austin
Eddie Wilson (founder/owner of the legendary Armadillo World
HQ) proclaimed Carolyn as "amazing & the best ever"
... and Eddie's seen all the best from the Armadillo days forward
(like Janis Joplin, EmmyLou, Grace Slick, Sean Colvin, Marcia
Ball, etc.).
Carolyn Wonderland performing in the
Courtyard at the Marathon Motel.
Carolyn Wonderland has the goods. A triple threat
with her diverse songwriting, soulful vocals, and guitar goddess
status. A bit of a renegade, she likes to incorporate elements
of Blues, Country, Swing, Zydeco, Surf, Gospel, Soul, and some
nights, maybe even a Cumbia into the musical mix. Recent years
have seen her stretching out musically working some expert whistling
and scat singing into her shows. In addition to her trusty guitar,
"Patty," Carolyn has been regularly playing her trumpet,
and even occasionally the accordion, mandolin, or keys...she is
threatening to take up nose flute if someone doesnt stop
her...
2nd Annual Bruce's Birthday Bash
(February 18th, 2005)
Tourists and area residents gathered at the Marathon Motel courtyard
Saturday evening for the second annual Barrys Birthday Buffalo
Bash. Over 200 people attended this years bash under clear skies
to enjoy buffalo BBQ, live music and dancing. The purpose of the
Buffalo Bash, which is free to the public, is to promote buffalo
as a healthier, low fat alternative to beef, celebrate Barry Bruces
birthday (a local rancher), and just a great excuse to have a
party. Other dishes for this Pot Luck event were provided
by area residents and businesses. Music, which was provided by
the Charles Maxwell Band, was streamed live on the internet through
the Basin Radio page, which can be found on Marathontexas.com.
Special thanks go to the Bruce Ranch for providing the buffalo,
Gordon Hughit, Javier Pinedo, the Marathon Motel, the Gage Hotel,
Cottonwood Station, and numerous individuals for their efforts
in making this event a huge success. Next years Buffalo Bash is
tentatively scheduled for February 18th.
